A588 Grade C Weathering Steel is a corrosion resistant high strength low alloy steel. Mainly used for short-term atmospheric corrosion. In order to maintain its best performance and provide a more perfect welding performance, some pre-welding operations are required before welding. For a588c grade steel, the following welding properties and welding methods are provided for your reference.
Welding performance of A588 Grade C weathering steel
A588 Grade C weathering steel has excellent weldability. After its pre-treatment, it can be welded by most of the commonly used welding methods. It can be shielded with a flux-cored wire, electrogas welding, submerged arc welding, and copper-plated submerged arc welding to make the weld microstructures more stable. Do not cause hardening of the base metal.
In order to avoid making a large number of thermal arc spots, reducing welding speed and low welding current should be used for welding. The width and spacing of the bead should not be too small. During welding, it should be prevented from appearing slag inclusion, porosity and other defects. After welding, the welded parts need to be subjected to post-weld heat treatment, which is beneficial to eliminate the welding stress, reduce the tendency of cold cracking, and improve the welding performance.
Welding method of A588 Grade C weathering steel
1. Manual arc welding
This welding method uses an arc to heat both the base metal and the welding electrode, and at the same time, a certain amount of metal is used as a filler and melted into a weld. It is suitable for welding A588 grade C weathering steel plates and pipes of different thicknesses.
2. Gas shielded arc welding
This method is to use shielding gas as the protection of the arc during welding. It is suitable for A588 grade C steel with a thickness of 25-100 mm and requires high efficiency, good welding and large work production.
3. Submerged arc welding
This method uses submerged arc welding flux as the protective medium of arc during welding. It is suitable for A588 grade C weathering steel with a thickness of more than 5 mm. It has the advantages of high efficiency, good quality of weld and improve productivity.
4. Electrode gas welding
This method utilizes carbon dioxide, oxygen and inert gases as shielding protection for welding. Suitable for most A588C grade weathering steel welding, generally used for manual welding.
A588 Grade C weathering steel has excellent weldability and can be welded by all commonly used welding methods. However, the welding process of A588C grade weathering steel needs special attention, and care should be done before welding. In addition, welding should be carried out in strict accordance with the specifications and requirements of the production process.
