Impact toughness test of A588 Grade A weathering steel sheet
Impact toughness test is an important test for materials to evaluate its anti-impact property and also an important indicator to evaluate the performance of material. Impact toughness test, also known as Charpy impact test, is a large test, which evaluates the material’s resistance to shock loading and is used for brittle materials. A588 Grade A weathering steel sheet is a kind of high weathering resistant steel, so impact toughness test of A588 Grade A weathering steel sheet is one of the most important test methods.
Fracture toughness KIcexperimental analysis
The impacts toughness (KIc) of the A588 Grade A weathering steel sheet was studied experimentally. Impact toughness test was performed in the universal testing machine and the results were obtained from the Charpy impact test. The test pieces were pieces of rectangular dimension (50 mm*10 mm*4 mm).A V-notch was pre-cut in the samples to increase the impact toughness of the specimen. The impact energy was measured by the pendulum impact tester under a given temperature and the impact energies at different temperatures were measured.
Analysis of the impact toughness test results
The analysis of the impact toughness test results of the A588 Grade A weathering steel sheet show theimpact toughness values of the specimens are at the range of 50 to 100J,with the average value of 84J, which is higher than thestandard requirement. The average impact toughness value of A588 Grade A weathering steel sheet at room temperature is higher than the requirement of GB. Therefore, the impact toughness of A588 Grade A weathering steel sheet is good.
The impact toughness of A588 Grade A weathering steel sheet at low temperature is good, which is higher than the standard requirement. It can be used in engineering fields with low temperature impact strength requirements.
