A588 Steel is a high strength, low-alloy (HSLA) formable steel ideal for machining and welding. The addition of copper to A588 plate allows this material to withstand atmospheric corrosion four times greater than general purpose plate while providing the strength and strength-to-weight properties comparable to A572 steel. So A588 plate is commonly used for products that are exposed to weather.
