A588 weathering steel plate is a medium and low alloy structural steel. Its corrosion resistance is 2-8 times that of carbon steel, and its paintability is 1.5-10 times that of carbon steel. Its low cost and good corrosion resistance make it an ideal material for use in bridges and steel structures exposed to the environment. A588 weather-resistant steel plate has higher requirements on the sandblasting process before painting.
First, pretreatment. Before sand blasting, any remnant from welding, cutting and grinding should be removed, and the surface of A588 weathering steel plate should be cleaned with a hot air blower, brush or solvent. In addition, the rust and dirt on the surface of the material should be removed by descaling.
Second, sand blasting. A588 weathering steel plate should be sandblasted in a pressure sandblasting cabinet or outdoor, using dry quartz sand as an abrasive. Dry sandblasting should not be carried out under wet conditions and on wet surfaces, as this will lead to damage to the surface of the weathering steel plate and reduce its thickness or cause hollowing or smearing of the surface. The sandblasting specifications for A588 weathering steel plate should be in accordance with the relevant standards and regulations, and the minimum sandblasting cleanliness of the substrate should be Sa2.5.
Finally, surface paint. Before painting, the surface of the sandblasted steel plate should be washed thoroughly with clean water and allowed to dry completely. The primer used on a588 weathering steel plate must be compatible with the topcoat. Topcoats should be applied using a spray method, taking into account the environmental temperature, humidity and wind direction according to the technical specifications.
The sandblasting process of A588 weathering steel plate is an important part of the anti-corrosion protection of the material, usually before painting. The cleaning process can effectively remove rust, oil and other dirt on the surface of the steel plate, and stimulate the adhesion, cohesion and bonding of the paint.
