product description

1. Introduction of A588Gr weathering steel plate:

A588Gr weathering steel plate is a kind of alloy steel belonging to the American Standard. After several years of outdoor exposure, a relatively dense rust layer can be formed on the surface, so it does not need to be painted for protection. Weathering steel is known as "COR-TEN", which is abbreviated as "Corrosion resistance" (corrosion resistance) and "Tensile strength" (tensile strength), so it is often referred to as "Corten Steel" in English. Different stainless steels can be completely rust-free, and weathering steels are only oxidized on the surface and will not penetrate deep into the interior, and have anti-corrosion characteristics like copper or aluminum. Weathering steel is also a type of mild steel that contains other alloying elements mixed with carbon and iron atoms. These alloying elements give weathering steel better strength and higher corrosion resistance than typical mild steel grades. Therefore, weathering steel is often used in outdoor applications or in environments where ordinary steel tends to rust.

2. The principle of A588Gr weathering steel plate:

Weathering Steel Low alloy steel has a tendency to rust in the presence of moisture and air at a rate that depends on the rate at which oxygen, moisture and atmospheric contaminants enter the metal surface. As the process progresses, the rust layer forms a barrier to the entry of oxygen, moisture and contaminants, and the rate of rusting slows down. The rust layer that forms on most common structural steels is porous. This porosity causes rust to fall off the metal surface after a certain time, causing the corrosion cycle to start again. As a result, the rusting process is repeated over and over, and at the end of each process the steel has no remaining layer. With weathering steel, the rusting process starts in the same way, but specific alloying elements in the steel produce a stable rust layer that adheres to the base metal and is less porous. This rusty "patina" forms under alternating wet and dry conditions, creating a protective barrier that blocks further entry of oxygen, moisture and contaminants. The result is a much lower corrosion rate than other structural steels. Mechanical properties and weathering rates depend on the alloys found in the steel, the concentration of these alloys, and the thickness of the steel substrate.

3. Composition of A588Gr weathering steel sheet:

As a mild steel, weathering steel typically has less than 0.3 wt% carbon. This small amount of carbon keeps it tough and tough. Weathering steels also include other alloying elements that contribute to strength, but more importantly, corrosion resistance. Many different alloying elements are used, but the key three elements in weathering steel are nickel, copper and chromium.
