A588GrB is an American standard low-alloy high-strength steel plate, and the A588 series is of that level. 8mm~200mm thick A588 series high weathering bridge structural steel plates include A588GrA, A588GrB, etc. This type of steel forms a protective layer on the surface of the metal substrate through the alloying of Cu, P, Cr, Ni, etc., so that it has high atmospheric corrosion resistance.
Technical standard ASTM A588/A588M-05
This standard applies to high-strength low-alloy structural steel profiles, plates and bars. These steels are used in welded, riveted and bolted structures, but are primarily used in welded bridges and buildings where weight savings or extended life are required.
This steel has significantly better atmospheric corrosion resistance than copper-containing or copper-free carbon structural steels in most environmental conditions (see Note 1). This steel is suitable for many applications in its bare (uncoated) state when fully exposed to the atmosphere. Material thickness limited by this standard ≤ 8 in. [200 mm].
