product description

ASTM A588 covers high-strength low-alloy structural steel shapes, plates, and bars for welded, riveted, or bolted construction but intended primarily for use in welded bridges and buildings where savings in weight or added durability are important.

ASTM A588 is a high strength low-alloy structural steel specification with higher strength and improved atmospheric corrosion resistance for structural steel shapes such as angles, channel and beams, as well as steel plate and bars. ASTM A588 is primarily used for:
Pedestrian Bridges
Highway Bridge Girders and other bridge components
Shipbuilding
Tanks
Railcars and Containers
Fencing
Sculptures

The A588 specification is intended primarily for use in unpainted applications, where savings in weight or added durability is important along with the longer life cycle due to its corrosion resistant properties and/or to achieve an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

The atmospheric corrosion resistance of A588 is substantially better than that of carbon steels such as A36 and A572-50 with or without copper addition. When properly designed and exposed to the atmosphere, A588 is suitable for many applications in the unpainted condition.

ASTM A588 has a 50ksi minimum yield strength and a 70ksi minimum tensile strength.

Classification:
1. High weathering steel
High weather resistance structural steel is to add a small amount of copper, phosphorus, chromium, and nickel elements to the steel to form a protective layer on the surface of the metal collective to improve the performance of the steel against atmospheric corrosion. You can also add a small amount of molybdenum, niobium, Elements such as vanadium, titanium and zirconium can refine the grains, improve the mechanical properties of steel, improve the strength and toughness of steel, reduce the brittle transition temperature, and make it have better resistance to brittle fracture.
2. Weathering steel for welding structure
The elements added to the steel grade, except for phosphorus, are basically the same as high weather resistance structural steels, and their functions are the same and improve welding performance.

Features:

Weathering steel has the characteristics of toughness, plastic stretching, forming, welding and cutting, wear resistance, high temperature resistance and fatigue resistance of high-quality steel; weather resistance is 2-8 times that of ordinary carbon steel, and the coating performance is 1.5 of ordinary carbon steel. -10 times, the coating performance is 1.5-10 times that of ordinary carbon steel, can be used for thin coating, bare coating or simplified coating. This steel has the characteristics of anti-rust, corrosion resistance, extended life, thinning and consumption reduction, labor-saving and energy-saving, which benefits component manufacturers and users. Weathering steel has better corrosion resistance in the atmosphere. Weathering steel can be thinned, exposed or simply painted. The steel system with corrosion resistance, life extension, labor saving, consumption reduction and upgrade is also a new mechanism, new technology and new process that can be integrated into modern metallurgy, so that it can continue to develop and innovate. Steel system.

Advantages:

Weathering steel is made of ordinary carbon steel with a small amount of corrosion-resistant elements such as copper and nickel. It has the characteristics of steel strength, ductility, forming, welding, abrasion, high temperature, fatigue, etc.; weather resistance is 2~8 of ordinary carbon steel The coating performance is 1.5~10 times that of ordinary carbon steel, which can be used in thinner, bare or simplified coating. The steel has the characteristics of rust resistance, corrosion resistance and longevity of components, thinning and consumption reduction, and labor-saving and energy-saving characteristics, which benefit component manufacturers and users.

Application:

The use of high weather resistance structural steel is better than weather resistance steel for welded structure because of its atmospheric corrosion resistance. It is mainly used for bolting, riveting and welding structural parts for vehicles, containers, buildings, towers and other structures. When used as welded structural parts, the thickness of the steel should not be greater than 16mm. The welding performance of weathering steel for welded structure is better than that of high weathering steel, and it is mainly used for welded structural parts for bridges, buildings and other structures.
